College Magazine Analysis
This magazine uses a range of 3 colours (green, shades of
black and white, there is also a bright blob of pink), by using fewer colours
it makes it look simple and more eye catching to the target audience.
The masthead is bold and centered at the top of the magazine
which makes it stand out and clear that the target audience is college students
as it is all about college lifestyle. We can also tell that this is the target
audience because it mentions technology which is linked with the younger
generation and also campus and college are mentioned more than once on the
front cover with in the cover lines.
The main cover line is in the bigger font size but is still
the same font as the rest of the cover line titles. This makes it stand out and tell the audience
what the main feature of this magazine is, it also links with the main image
which is a front facing shot of the student they are talking about, and it is
also placed in the center of the magazine making it stand out and the audience
more aware of the features. Overall this magazine uses around 2 -3 different
font to differentiate the cover line titles from the little bit about each
cover line this helps the audience not get confused because it is simple, clear
and easy to read. The front cover is also advertising paintball which is
something the younger generation like to do with their mates this is advertised
in a pink splat of paint so it stands out but also links to the activity.

Preliminary - Questionnaire Analysis
From the questionnaire about the college magazine I found
out that 90% of the participants don’t read the current version of the college
magazine. The participants however inferred that they would read the magazine
based on the questions that where asked.
The top 5 colours for a magazine front page that the
participants suggested where black, red, white, blue and green. This suggests
that the public like eye catching colours and ones that don`t clash, this would
mean that from these suggestions I would be most likely to use black, red and
white.
I also asked how often they would like the magazine
published, the results concluded that 30% would like it monthly, 30% Termly and
20% fortnightly, although the monthly and termly got equal percentages the
average amount of people suggested monthly issue of a college magazine, this
would be able to keep the up to date more regally about college life.
Furthermore the public was also asked how much they would
likely pay for a college magazine the results came out as 40% nothing, 20% 50p,
12% 25p and 12% £1. The most likely price I would charge for this magazine is
50p even though a there was a high percentage say nothing the majority still
said they would pay something towards the magazine. Also 95% of the public free
things would encourage them to buy the magazine meaning I could charge more for
it to compensate.
When asking the public what they would like to see included
in the magazine the top choices where music, food, competitions, fashion and
revision so these would make the main feature articles and the front cover in
every issue of the magazine as this is what the public would most want to
see. Furthermore on the front cover, I
asked what image would they like to see and 70% said a student or a piece of
student work as it gives them the opportunity to showcase work and also fits in
more with the target audience.
80% of the public would also like to see the magazine
available on multi- platforms so it would more accessible and in touch with
this generation. Therefore I will include a web address on the front cover.
